MANILA, Philippines - Members of the Sydney-based Philippine Australian Sports and Culture, Inc. (PASC) recently visited the Philippines to support tropical storm “Ondoy” rehabilitation activities of the Rotary Club of Marikina, Nangka High School in Marikina, House of Angels in Manila and House of No Steps in Tanay.
The group also called on Australian embassy Deputy Head of Mission Stephen Scott to discuss PASC’s activities, including the 22nd Grand Philippine Sydney Fiesta Kultura which will be held on Oct. 10.
Fiesta Kultura is one of the largest community festivals in Australia and has been described as the biggest gathering of Filipinos at an event outside the Philippines. The fiesta, along with PASC’s other cultural and sporting events, has raised funds to support PASC’s programs in the Philippines, including medical/dental missions and scholarship grants, since 1990.
Scott congratulated PASC on its continuing efforts to foster enduring people-to-people links between Australia and the Philippines.
“Australia is home to more than 200,000 people of Filipino descent who make significant contributions to Australian society including in commerce, health, education, and information technology,” Scott said.
