Australia funds Mindoro marine conservation project

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Australian Embassy’s Direct Aid Program head Rick Adams (second from left) visited a marine conservation project in Calapan, Mindoro that established 200 artificial reef modules to help rehabilitate the marine ecosystems of Barangays Wawa and Balite which are under threat from unsustainable fishing practices, habitat degradation and unregulated development. The project was undertaken by the Kaunsayan Formation for Community Development, which undertook a similar project in Bansud, Oriental Mindoro in 2008. With Adams are superintendent Noel Ponollera and project executives Doris Melgar and Mike Rivera.
