The search for the 23rd Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Award is on

-

MANILA, Philippines - In a place where the headlines every day are filled with crime or tragedy, it is uplifting when we hear about something so rare. It is sometimes hard to believe that there is still someone out there who still has a pure heart for sharing something to the poor. Although our country is filled with people who are hurting, people who are barely making ends meet, there are also some who are blessed with all the fortune in the world.

Just like Irene Yusingco, a humble accountant who unquestionably welcomed strangers in need to her home, who was last year’s winner of the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Award. She reached out to women in crisis, street children and other less fortunate individuals by motivating numerous charity organizations to spread out their care.

This is the type of person that the AY Foundation is looking for the 23rd Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Award. Inspired by the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Mother Teresa, the award will be granted to individuals who have dedicated at least 25 years of humanitarian work to orphans, handicapped, the poor, the oppressed and marginalized Filipinos.

Nominations are now open. The nominee must still be active in his or her occupation but still possessing humanitarian characteristics. The winner will be awarded P1 million, half of which will be in cash and the other half will be donated to a charitable institution of his or her choice.
