MANILA, Philippines - Miriam College recently teamed up with Adarna House Inc. for Lingap Bulilit on Wheels, a program created to cultivate the love for reading among day care and pre-school children. A colorfully-decorated vehicle brings Miriam College volunteer students and teachers and the books to different barangay day care centers and public schools within Metro Manila. The program was first launched at Krus na Ligas Elementary School in Quezon City.
“Adarna House Inc. is a valuable partner because of its expertise and advocacy in the field of literature for children,” said Dreena del Mundo, program director of Lingap Bulilit and chair of the Child Development and Education Department of Miriam.
More storytelling sessions will be conducted in partner communities of Miriam College – Marytown, Park 7, and Daan Tubo in Barangay Loyola Heights; Kaingin 1 in Barangay Pansol; and Pook Libis in Barangay UP Campus. This outreach is a spin-off of one of the school’s successful programs on early childhood education called Lingap Bulilit, which aims to upgrade the competencies of barangay day care workers through intensive teacher training and workshops.
