Lepanto honors miners, teachers, village leaders

-

MANILA, Philippines - Mining giant Lepanto Consolidated Mining Co. honored 178 employees, mostly underground miners, school teachers and community leaders, when it celebrated its 73rd anniversary recently with the theme: “Breaking the Barriers, Working Together for Progress.”

The “Gawad-Lepanto, Gabi ng Parangal at Kultura” is an annual cultural and recognition program held at the mine site in Mankayan, Benguet.

Model Employees, Best Underground and Surface Workers and a roster of Service Awardees were the stars of the night.

Bryan Yap, president and chief operating officer of the firm, led the Adopt-A-Day Care Center book donation program for five local daycare centers which received packages containing pre-school books, toys, learning and teaching tools.

Other activities included the annual anniversary golf tournament and the Likha-Sining Pambata on-the-spot poster making contest participated in by students from various elementary and secondary schools inside the mine camp.

The anniversary occurred days before typhoon “Pepeng” ravaged the region.

Knestor Jose Godino, administrative services manager of LCMC, said miners were tapped to help in rescue and retrieval operations after the typhoon.

The Mankayan local government, including barangay leaders in Tadian town, acknowledged the miners for their assistance. – Artemio Dumlao
