MANILA, Philippines - The Asian Cultural Council (ACC) announced its new batch of 2009 grantees.

His grant will enable him to conduct research in US museums for the purpose of showing how American artists influenced modern and contemporary artists in the Philippines.
Lyra Garcellano is best known as a conceptual installation artist whose works concentrate on issues of identity, the environment, and human rights. Her grant will enable her to research contemporary art and art practices, meet with artists and curators in the US and participate in an international residency program in New York City.
Barbara Tan-Tiongco is a technical theater practitioner. She was given a four-month grant to serve as an apprentice to master lighting designer Jennifer Tipton. She will work on the Public Theater’s production of “The Bacchae” to be presented at the Delacorte Theater in New York City’s Central Park and in Washington, DC, and the Wooster Group’s production of “Viex Carre” to be performed in New York, Salzburg, and Paris.
Nicholas Pichay is a practicing lawyer and a prize-winning playwright. The Ma-Yi Theater Company in New York City selected Pichay to undertake a six-month residency at the Ma-Yi Writers Lab, the largest assembly of professional Asian-American playwrights in the US.
The ACC is a foundation supporting cultural exchange in the visual and performing arts between the US and the countries of Asia. Its primary emphasis is to provide individual fellowship grants to artists and scholars.
The ACC Philippines Foundation was established in 2000 as ACC’s partner in raising funds and making grants in support of the dedicated arts community in the Philippines. The grants offer more opportunities for artists, scholars and cultural institutions in the Philippines.
