Online mag, video from Yabang Pinoy

MANILA, Philippines - Yabang Pinoy, an organization of shouting proud Filipinos, joins their countrymen in celebrating Buwan ng Wika this August, via the first online magazine launched as a Filipino pride campaign.

MAG YP, created and produced entirely by passionate volunteers, means both The YP Magazine and MAG-YP, an open invitation to every Filipino. In keeping with the occasion, its maiden issue is dedicated to wika or language. Each issue will be filled from cover to cover with the freshest ideas sure to be appealing to this generation’s youth; the magazine, just like its title says, is filled with wit and wordplay, and is designed with a clever mix of conventional feel and contemporary vibe.

The online magazine will be published as a pdf file, available for download and sharing, and accessible at the Yabang Pinoy website.

Aside from MAG YP, Yabang Pinoy also launches a new video project, The Mark Peckson Project, this month. The project is a series of short 5-minute videos that trails 29-year-old Mark Peckson, who has spent a big part of his life in Hong Kong, until moving back to the Philippines 11 years ago. His knowledge of Filipino, Mark admits, has not been workable; and the project documents a month in his life, when he tries to learn the language and finally masters it after 11 years.

On its pilot episode, Mark goes back to Grade 3, and together with regular 9-year-olds, tries his best to answer every recitation question, to amusing results. The Mark Peckson Project can be seen at http://pecksonpinoy.ph
