- Artemio Dumlao -

MANILA, Philippines - Kibungan town in Benguet province, famous for its Arabica coffee, will soon send its produce to Canada.

A memorandum of agreement will formalize the partnership between Canadian firm Rocky Mountain Company and Kibungan, where the former will make available loans to coffee growers.

Mayor Benito Siadto said seven barangays in the town have coffee farms, with some 20 hectares planted to Arabica coffee.

Rocky Mountain will market the Benguet grown coffee under the brand Kibungan Pure Arabica Coffee. The Canadian firm will also monitor the quality of the beans.

The Canadian firm will initially spend for growing the coffee, with the expenses to be deducted after harvest.

Siadto said the programs will help alleviate poverty in the town, one of Benguet’s poorest.

“This will uplift living standards and develop the economy,” he said.
