MANILA, Philippines — The impact of the fast-evolving and widespread COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented. It has changed the way how much attention we should take on the usual constitutional signs and symptoms of a viral infection like cough, cold, body malaise and fever, and make sure that it is not a COVID-19 infection.

The importance of preventive measure and a strong immune system cannot be overemphasized. The synergistic benefit of tactile stimulation or massage and the soothing qualities as a sedative and analgesic effect of the essential oils in Aceite de Manzanilla will be of great value for mothers during this trying time.

Traditionally, child massage has been every mother’s companion in connecting with their child. A mother’s loving touch helps strengthen parent-child bonding and connection. In fact, as soon as babies are born, doctors recommend skin-to-skin contact to help make mothers feel closer to their children and develop a relationship.

On top of this, a child massage can also:

  • Help strengthen the immune system
Massaging your child before bedtime will help them have a more relaxing and long slumber. According to studies (https://www.sleepfoundation.org/physical-health/how-sleep-affects-immunity), through its calming effect and promotion of good sleep, their immune system gets boosted.

  • Let them experience new sensations
Giving your child a massage will provide a greater tactile understanding of his or her body.

  • Supports the digestive process and may help alleviate colic or “kabag"
A good massage can help a toddler become calmer and more relaxed. Using oils that contain chamomile such as IPI Aceite de Manzanilla can help alleviate discomforts faster.

Rubbing a few drops of this liquid remedy from a sturdy glass bottle of IPI Aceite de Manzanilla on the colicky babies’ tummies will not only help alleviate the kabag but also bring back memories from one’s childhood. Since then, it has been the go-to remedy against the annoying kabag among children.

Massages can be a good way to bond with your children aside from relieving them from discomforts every day.

Note: IPI Aceite de Manzanilla does not treat any illnesses among children; instead, together with child massage, it helps alleviate these discomforts. Should symptoms persist, consult your physician.

Using different techniques of child massage, the famous manzanilla is much more than just a reliever of kabag, it can also help soothe other discomforts commonly experienced by children, including cough, cold and fever. Here’s how to learn the different techniques of child massage.

1. I love you massage

To do this, first, you will have to make a single downward stroke with your right hand on the left side of your child's tummy (your right). Then, make a backward, sideways 'L' going from your child's right to the left side. Finally, make an upside-down ‘U' going from their lower right side, up, across, and down the left side of their tummy. Say the words ‘I love you’ as you go through the strokes.

2. Tummy massage

This technique is popular for children experiencing kabag. It is also an excellent way to make the baby feel safe and secure. Do this by making a gentle paddling stroke on the tummy with one hand following the other. Don’t forget your IPI Aceite de Manzanilla.

3. Chest massage

A gentle massage on the chest can help alleviate congestion problems in children. While resting your hands on your child's chest, gently stroke out to the sides. Keeping contact with your baby, glide your hands down, around, and meeting in the center again.

4. Touch relaxation

This technique can be used at any age and at any time during the massage. It helps relieve tensions in your children’s bodies. Start by gently molding your hands around your baby’s arm or leg. Calmly and soothingly repeat the word “relax.” When you feel them responding, reward them with positive feedback or a kiss.

5. Hand massage

Children can feel tension on their hands, and one way to manage it is to show them how to relax their hands. By using the pads of your thumb, gently open their hands, roll each finger between your index finger and thumb, and finally stroke the top of the hand from the wrist to the fingertips.

6. Back massage

This technique encourages the strengthening of the neck, shoulders, and arms. Moreover, it provides a calming and relaxing effect. Try different positions to motivate them to enjoy being on their fronts.

IPI Aceite de Manzanilla works not just for colic or “kabag” but can also help alleviate children’s other body discomforts.
