Dawn of the space age at the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center

MANILA, Philippines - There are three immense reasons to watch the Dawn of the Space Age premiere this coming October 2 at the Digistar Planetarium of the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center. First, it’s a great way to know the beginnings of man’s exploration into space as the center commemorates the anniversary of Sputnik, the first man made satellite. Second, it marks one of the series of activities in the Philippines in the observance of the World Space Week. And lastly, an exciting promo awaits everyone this October 15, via the Passport to Discovery promotion, wherein one lucky guest has a chance to bring home cool premium items including a chance to win a trip to Singapore for two during the grand raffle in March 2011.

Dawn of the Space Age takes you on a visual and virtual tour of the Space Race between the USSR and U.S.A. The film takes viewers back to as early as 1957, from the space exploration milestones: the first human space flight by Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first space walk by Cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, to the launch of the Soyuz Space Station, as well as memorable American manned flights like the Gemini and Apollo programs.

Painstaking created with stunningly realistic images of these momentous events in space, the film is a 45 minute journey that completely envelops and enthralls the viewer like never before with its MIRAGE 3D effects. Don’t miss Dawn of the Space Age at the Planetarium of the Science Center beginning October 2, 2010.

The film’s premiere screening also marks the Philippines participation in the observance of the World Space Week for the first time. The United Nations General Assembly officially declared October 4-10 as World Space Week in 1999. Celebrated in over 63 countries today, World Space Week aims to celebrate the contribution of space, science, and technology to human kind.

These commemorates two major milestones of space exploration in October: the launch of Sputnik, the first man made satellite on October 4, 1957, an event that marked the beginnings of space exploration; and the enforcement of the Treaty of Principles governing the activities of United States in the exploration of outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies on October 10, 1967.

Kids and kids at heart who will be watching Dawn of the Space Age, will not only discover the beginnings of space exploration, but also have a chance to be part of the Passport to Discovery Promotion, beginning October 15. With Passport to Discovery, those who will watch additional film from the three current planetarium films have a chance to bring home exciting premium items including a chance to win the Grand Prize of a trip for two to Singapore, including tours to the Night Safari, Singapore Zoo, and the Singapore Science Center.
