The Perfect Fit

-

MANILA, Philippines - Shopping for the perfect pair of jeans can be tough, it can even be a test of patience at times. If you’re on the lookout for a new pair of jeans but you’re totally clueless on what to get, read on for style tips on how to choose the perfect pair of jeans for your body type.

In her book, Style A to ZOE, celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe shares practical tips on how to create glam looks whether for a red carpet event or for just chilling out with friends. When it comes to her “denim rules”, Zoe admits that while she loves jeans, one should learn that not all jeans will work with any body type and that not any event is considered as “jeans-appropriate”, here we break down some of her key rules when it comes to sporting this closet favorite.

“These days, people are a little too cozy with the notion that all denim is for all things. Not so. Never underestimate the power of denim, including when it doesn’t fit the situation.”

While jeans are a great choice whether for a date or for a day of running errands, Zoe stresses on the importance of finding the right pair of jeans for every situation. Learn to differentiate which type of jeans is best for daytime looks and which pairs you can actually use for work. There are many different cuts and washes available out there so you’re sure to not run out of options. Skinny jeans in a dark wash is always a practical choice as you can easily dress it up or down.

“Keep in mind that when it comes to denim, there are very, very different rules for civilians and supermodels.”

While models can pull off even the trickiest denim looks like pedal pushers, everyday folks better concentrate on finding the “best silhouettes for their bodies”. According to Zoe, finding the best silhouette is much more important than getting into the latest denim fad. Just keep it basic, while studs, embroidery, and other kinds of embellishments make for interesting add-ons, it doesn’t always assure you of a great look. Find the right pair of jeans that works for your body type and make that your go-to jeans in your wardrobe.

“Great fitting, great-looking jeans should not look like they’re squeezing you out like a sausage from its casing.”

According to Zoe, if the waist of your jeans cuts into your hips or any other line of your torso, throw out those jeans immediately! It’s not really a matter of having to diet but more on learning to choose the right silhouette and size for your body type.

“The leg should flatter your shape.”

Zoe shares that a skinny tapered leg is great although it doesn’t necessarily suit those with pear-shaped bums. For those of you who have this body type, Zoe suggests to match your favorite pair of skinny jeans with a cute shirt or top that is long enough to go beyond your thighs. For ladies who have shorter legs, she recommends that the hem of their jeans should skim the floor to give off the illusion of longer legs. This type of jeans actually looks great whether on short or tall women although Zoe considers scraggly, dirty hems that have become trendy as not a pretty sight.

Zoe ends that shoppers should always keep in mind that while a certain look may work on a friend or a celebrity, it doesn’t automatically mean that it will have the same effect on you. Make sure to consider your own body type at all times when it comes to shopping for a new pair.
