Ortigas Home Depot Complex is also a Haven for Auto Enthusiasts: Holds three car events for the month of June

MANILA, Philippines - Ortigas Home Depot Complex has fast become a place for holding auto shows and car club gatherings, fondly called “EB’s” or “eyeball events”. With its expansive parking and wide choice of restaurants and bars in the vicinity, these events are reminiscent of festive open car park gatherings of the 1980s where car enthusiasts gather together in commercial parking lots to showcase their cars and visitors are expected to mingle with the car owners, have their photos taken beside these rarely seen cars. Unlike most indoor car shows, these cars will not be cordoned off and visitors can view these cars up close.

1st Independence Day Classic and Muscle Car Show – June 12th

Car enthusiasts who visited this show had a blast from the past as more than 70 classic and muscle cars were showcased in this event. Organized by Jan Kierulf and Earl Manalansan of Carshow Unlimited, and the highlights of the show included a showcar competition, car and model photoshoot, V-8 treasure hunt, chili dog and beef patty cake eating contest, videowall film showing of classic and muscle cars, live and DJ music and other entertainment numbers provided by the event host and TV personality Maverick.

Among those who joined the show were show cars from renowned car specialist Alex Car Restoration, featuring its highly customized Mustang Fastbacks. A number of other American muscle cars like Camaros, Chevelles, Corvettes and Firebirds were also showcased in the event. The Independence Day Classic and Muscle Car Show sponsors include Caltex, Pepsi, Chevrolet, Chrysler, American Racing, Hotwheels, AmbiPur, Chrome Dazzler, Grand Prix Hotel and Wave89.1.

BMW Car Club Conducts Aftermarket Clinic – June 19th

After holding their biggest and grandest Bimmerfest car show event last May 15th in Makati’s A.Venue, BMW Car Club of the Philippines (BMWCCP) held a clinic on aftermarket products with a seminar on proper fitting of aftermarket wheels and tires provided by Sammy Liuson of Wheel Gallery and Concept One Wheels plus a clinic on suspension upgrades courtesy of Arvin Lim of Makna Marketing, exclusive distributors of H&R Springs and Bilstein Shock Absorbers. This one-day event provided its members a more in-depth knowledge on how to tune their BMW cars’ suspension and handling capabilities.

Its club president, Edwin D. Reyes relates that the club has been doing a number of its activities in the Ortigas Home Depot area for a number of years already, because of its convenient location and amenities in the area. Their members are often found to hang out and meet up in Jay-j’s Grille in Ortigas Home Depot, along Julia Vargas Avenue. BMWCCP members look forward to having more events in Ortigas Home Depot Complex in the years to come.

Team Hyundai Club Hosts Grand EB – June 26th

The last weekend of June was also the grand EB weekend of Team Hyundai, the car club for Hyundai owners and enthusiasts. Hosted at JT’s Manukan and Inasal, the event was sponsored by Speedlab and Hyundai Pasig. Hyundai is now the country’s number three automotive brand and it wasn’t surprising to see so many members who braved the weekend traffic and rain to join in the festivities. Aside from food and drinks and the merriment, it was also a chance for its members to catch up with their buddies and plan for their calendar of activities.

Held annually, the grand EB allows the club to announce its events for the rest of the year and for the succeeding year. This year’s event was made special also with the display of five specially customized Genesis Coupes proudly displayed by their owners along the frontage of JT’s. This includes the Hyundai Genesis “Drift Car” with a specially fitted ground effects of A-Toy Bodykit and Concept One Wheels.
