What fast food faves would you like to bring back?

- Camille Bersola -

MANILA, Philippines - There’s always something new at fast food restaurants but not all of those items stay on the menu as much as other regular favorites. Some of these are only limited edition or promotional items that only last on the list for a month or two leaving us craving for more. We asked some fast food fans about their most-missed products from their favorite fast food stores.

Rem Lucio, 24, Writer

Rem is just among the many raving about McDonald’s Twister Fries. These spiraled-cut potatoes were first introduced in the early 1990s by the American food chain and have since then been sold on a seasonal basis. For Rem, “It’s a great comfort food!”

She added that compared to the regular fries, Twister Fries are much better because they are not cooked soggy like other fries. They are also perfect with a special dip like McDonald’s used to offer in the past. She mentioned about her favorite Shrek Green Ketchup, which was a part of the promotional ad for the Shrek movie before.

Kirby Mendola, 21, college student

Kirby is also one of the Twister fries enthusiasts. “It was something different from the regular fries we’ve had for years,” he said.

Jeizelle Bacuetes, 23, college student

Jeizelle is also another fan of McDonald’s Twister Fries. Aside from the distinctly tasty flavor of these fries, she also said that these have been part of her childhood and would always love to savor the sweetness of the past with this Twister delight.

Sam Bersola, 23, Sales Account Executive

Many people may not remember it but Jollibee used to sell its Criss Cut Fries, potato fries cut in weave-like shape. Sam said she misses these goodies which she first tasted in the 1990s. She remembered how cheesy and perfectly crispy these fries are and she’d be more than happier having these back on the Jollibee menu again.

Entro Manalo, 22, PR Associate

Pineapple is usually a good pizza topping but it was never used as a burger filling until Jollibee introduced its Amazing Aloha in 1996. This is stuffed with double patties, cheese, bacon and a thick pineapple slice. Entro said, “I especially love the tasty pineapple slice that contrasts against the savory flavor of the beef.”

He added that it also brings a lot of good memories of his childhood. As a kid, Entro would always pick the Amazing Aloha when they dined in at Jollibee.

Kendrick Go, 23, Marketing Consultant

Chicken is among the Filipino favorites in fast food stores and Kendrick’s pick is Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Spicy Chicken Wing. He remembered KFC had this on sale a few years ago for only P35 for two pieces. “It was very good and nice value for money.”

Kendrick said he used to eat this for lunch almost everyday because of its great value and its “really spicy” kick.

Mark Navarro, 23

KFC has always been popular for their signature fried chicken and when they came out with Chicken barbecue a few years ago, there were also a lot who have fallen in love with this juicy chicken barbecue. Mark especially loved it with the Java rice that was served with it. “It was so good!” he exclaimed.

Sherri Austria, 21

Fast food restaurants also come out with products in line with the season and Jollibee also had its cool Ice Craze flavors in the past summer seasons. Sherri misses its Coffee Jelly Ice Craze. She said, “It would’ve been the perfect treat for the summer heat!”

Nemelou Despuez, 23, Writer

They may no longer be in business in the country since the past few years but A&W will always be noted for their signature items such as the Root Beer Float and Coney Fries. Nemelou thought it was a bit upsetting that their branches had been closing down but she said that she would always love their original root beer with floating vanilla ice cream.

Alex Tong, 21

During its early years in business here in the Philippines, Burger King has been popular for their refillable drinks counter, which was frequented by diners who wanted more sodas or juices available in the counter. However, this had been phased out after a few years and Alex wishes there still are refillable drinks counter in Burger King Outlets until today. He said, “We used to go there all the time for that!”
