NBI agents seize P1.3M worth of motorcycle brake shoes

MANILA, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced Tuesday the seizure of some P1.3 million worth of fake Makoto motorcycle brake shoes during a raid last August 24, 2009. Mega Ideal Cycle Corporation in Novaliches and Hi Tech Cycle Supply in Legaspi City.

Agents of the NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division raided Mega Ideal Cycle Corporation in Novaliches and Hi Tech Cycle Supply in Legaspi City and confiscated fake Makoto brake shoes last Monday. 

The raid was based on a complaint filed with the NBI by Mitsukoshi Motors Philippines for the unauthorized manufacturing, sale and use of its trade name, Makoto, resulting in massive losses to the company.

The raid led to the seizure of some 13,886 fake Makoto brake shoes worth an estimated P1.3 million.

The private complainant Mitsukoshi and the NBI are filing charges with the City of Manila Prosecutors Office against the owners of the raided companies for violating Republic Act No. 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
