Maryknoll College Class 69 Jubilarians mount exhibit and film showing

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — An afternoon showcasing the artistic and writing talents of the prolific Maryknoll College (now known as Miriam College) Class 69 unfolds on Sept. 8 at 3:30 p.m. in the Greenhills Promenade at the Greenhills Shopping Center as part of the Golden Jubilarians’ weeklong celebration.

The visual arts exhibit is mounted in tandem with the presentation of the award-winning film “Across the Crescent Moon” produced, directed and written by Baby Nebrida, a member of the class, at the Dolby Atmos Cinema 8 at 5:30 p.m. Both events are held in cooperation with the Music Museum Group.

The exhibit is open to the public while movie ticket holders are invited to cocktails during the exhibit.

The visual arts exhibit dubbed “Paints, Lens and Ink” features about 43 paintings, 14 photographs and 14 books -- all of which are works of the artists, photography aficionados and the book authors among the ranks of the 50-year alumni and family members.

The Jubilarian Fine Arts exhibitors are: Fanny Bernardo Blanco, Esther Jose Capistrano, Margarita Ventenilla Hamada, Helen Petines Mayo, Stella Orig Torres; guest artists include siblings Franco, Anika and Natalia Castillo, Akemi Mikaela Elgar, Memphis Katherine Mojica, and Lara Christine Sarmiento. Photographs by Aurora Lapus Sagaz and guest exhibitors, father-daughter Cliff and Amanda Scherer complete the visual arts display.

Also available will be the published works of four Jubilarian book authors: Teresa Misa Gerlinger, Margarita Hamada, Jane Maestro Scherer and Patricia Nepomuceno Sutter.

In memory of and in endearing tribute to Maryknoll High School 1965 classmate Evelyn Golangco Cu-Unjieng who recently passed on, her book “Finding Me” will also be showcased.

Stella Torres, project head, says the art works consist of paintings in oil, watercolor, acrylic, colored pencils, many of which are being exhibited for the first time.

The incisive photographs by Sagaz and the Scherers depict a mix of local and Asian indigenous culture. Select exhibit items will be on sale.

The Class 1969 Golden Jubilee festivities are held in conjunction with the Grand Alumni Homecoming of Maryknoll-Miriam College on Sept. 7.
