The news in pictures

MANILA, Philippines — Photo-journalists present images of the news, capture moments of history where there is no take-two and often no fore warning; they have to be always alert, always with their camera at the ready. Any news report, no matter how thorough, is enhanced by a striking image. The cliche “a picture is worth a thousand words” certainly works with news coverage.

On this spread we share some of these moments of history over the past dozen months, captured by The STAR’s team of photographers who, not surprisingly, when asked to talk about their experiences, all said they’d just give us their photos, and let these tell their stories.
