Korean Cultural Center’s 5th anniversary marked with K-Pop & all things Korean
MANILA, Philippines - In celebration of Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines’ (KCC) 5th anniversary, K-pop fans will had a full-day feast on all things Korean with “Happy Hallyu Day” and “Pinoy K-Pop Star” held on July 23 at Skydome, SM City North EDSA.
“I am happy to know that a lot of Filipinos are fascinated in Korean culture and K-Pop. I hope that through these events more Filipinos would appreciate our Culture and K-pop,” KCC director Oh Choong-Suk said.
Various Korean-related activities and booths of K-pop fan clubs and Korean products were prepared for the guests. Korean cosmetic brand Missha had make-up a demonstration where guests learned how to achieve the looks of popular K-pop artists.
K-Pop cover dance groups and singers and KCC’s in-house Korean traditional dance team performed during the event.
A seminar about traveling to Korea was conducted by Sparkling Magazine’s editor-in-chief Gigi Yia and fashion stylist and editor RJ Roque gave a short talk and workshop on Korean style and K-pop-inspired fashion.
Meanwhile, among hundreds who applied at the online auditions, only 20 hopefuls were selected to compete in this year’s grand finals of Pinoy K-Pop Star.
For the vocal category, Andrea Fe Padilla, Jamie Rose Tote, LyKan, John Paul Soliva, Venisse Nicole Siy, John Paulo Nase, Kirsten Loresto, Hergie Manlucot, Diana Tabitha Caro, and Samantha Isabelle Sta. Ana were selected for the final round.
For the performance category, cover groups Class B, UNL7SHD, NOXX, Bangtan HD, Gfries, Birth of Stars, Exotix, Campus Royalties, Amigo7, and SugarSpice made it to the finals.
2015 Pinoy K-Pop Star Vocal Category 2nd prize winner and Philippine representative to the 2015 K-Pop World Festival Val John Librea hosted the event while “I Love OPM” grand prize winner Hwang Yohan and My Foreignay Dance Diva and KCC K-pop dance instructor Dasuri Choi were part of the panel of judges for the competition.
