MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation president Butch Meily recently spoke at the United Nations on the private sector role in recovery and resilience during disasters.
In his speech, Meily noted the recent name change of the foundation from Recovery to Resilience. “Resilience covers more phases of a crisis particularly with regard to preparedness. We want to focus more attention on preventing tragedy than reacting to it after it happens,” he said.
UN secretary general Bahn Ki Moon and UN assistant deputy general for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O’Brien presided over the meeting which was held in preparation for the World Humanitarian Summit next year in Istanbul.
