Happy Easter!

- Lydia Castillo - The Philippine Star

May the Resurrection reawaken our good values and lead us to a better understanding of our goals in life. Happy Easter to all!

We were handed this paper, which is a bit too technical, about water being good for the health. In summary it says water kills cancer cells and that salt is also an illness-saving element. With so many people around us suffering from the dreaded disease, it will be good to know this. It is recommended that we take two glasses of water 30 minutes before meals, two more two hours after meals and one glass before sleeping with a pinch of salt added to it. Note that salt prevents dehydration. The researchers who came to these conclusions are Otto Heinrich Warburg, A. K. Brewer and F. Batmanghelidji. All can be contacted at foodforthegods/FBat_RAsytem

A visit to Rustan’s Marketplace at the Rockwell complex led us to this French baker Eric Kayser, Artisan Boulanger from Paris, offering French pastries, with young  ladies garbed in the very French neckerchief-ed striped tees and black trousers, serving the customers. They are good looking too. This  bakery has a good selection of breads, but the focaccia with olives was rather tough and quite difficult to cut and chew. The apple turnover turned makunat after a day, but the cupcakes were good. Perhaps we need to eat the breads on the day of purchase. They have been awarded the Best Croissant in Tokyo and the Best Baguette by a New York magazine. Their philosophy is “Bread is a bit of flour, salt and water and a large amount of Passion” – very French, indeed.

At Rockwell, those with hungry tummies will always find comfort food at the Via Mare, on the street level of Power Plant mall. Their molo soup, served hot always, satiates the appetite and leads to craving for more of their Filipino offerings, like the crispy pata, which was a hit with a visiting American gentleman and his Filipino wife. The lumpiang ubod was as refreshing with its sweetish sauce. The place is evidently very popular as it was a full house when we dined there and table turnovers were fast.

At Figaro in the Alabang Town Center (ATC), they have welcomed summer with the Milk Tea Craze – Watermelon Frost with Classic Tea for P105, Honeydue Frost with Figaro Tea, also at P105, Summer Fusion drinks like Banana Choconut Fusion, Mango Caramel, Four Seasons and Lychee Cucumber, all at P125 a glass. Good refreshers while resting tired feet after shopping.

Pancit ng Taga Malabon has disappeared from the areas near our base, but we found them in BF Homes, Parañaque. They deliver to areas near their base of operation. Contact them at tel. 807-8345. They are about the only one serving pancit Malabon hereabouts. Most restaurants offer pancit luglog, which is quite different.

Have a good Easter, you all!
