Seven weeks of summer

The young and the not-so-young can benefit from dance classes this summer, from classical ballet to modern dance to improvisation and hiphop. The rule is – just dance!

MANILA, Philippines - Now on its 45th year, the CCP Summer Dance Workshop is once again paving the way for young dance talents to achieve their dreams to become professional dancers.

Starting on April 1, dance students from all over the country will flock to the Cultural Center of the Philippines for the seven-week summer dance workshop.

Esteemed Ballet Philippines current company members and alumni will guide these aspirants in honing their craft.

The workshop gives courses in Classical Ballet for all ages, Modern & Contemporary Ballet, and Lyrical Hiphop for kids and teens.

Also offered are classes in Creative Movement, Improvisation, Dance Composition. A Lecture Series rounds out the dancers’ training, giving them vital information on dance pedagogy, stagecraft, and dance history.

The workshop will conclude with two grand performances of “Tchaikovsky’s Classical Treasures,” a recital featuring dances from the Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, and Swan Lake, to be held on May 24 and 25 at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater).

Provincial applicants may audition for scholarships on April 1 at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Scholarships are available for students aged 9 to 13, intermediate and advanced students, and promising males from any dance background.

The CCP Dance School is also branching out of the CCP premises, opening a new dance school at SM Aura Premier.

Through CCPDS, technique classes in different dance forms will be offered in SM Aura Premier’s dance spaces. CCP Dance School will provide the program of classes, assign faculty and teachers, and manage the administrative system to run the school at SM Aura Premier.

Aside from the usual children’s classical and modern ballet classes, the school at SM Aura Premier will also offer the Ballet Philippines Fitness Program, a set of exercises aimed at women who are looking for new ways to tone and exercise their bodies. The program includes the Ballet Workout and the Modern Dance Workout, which incorporate the fundamentals of classical and modern dance technique in exercises targeted at building muscle tone and core strength.

Also offered are Ladies’ Ballet, which is a basic ballet class, and Active Stretch, a body shaping, toning and strengthening program.

The CCP Dance School (CCPDS) is the professional training ground of the country’s most promising young talents in dance. With a unique curriculum that encompasses various dance styles and techniques, the systematized method and approach to instruction takes into account children’s anatomy and psyche at various ages and levels so that the training is physically safe, technically effective and artistically enriching for students of all ages.
