The story of Guidelines

MANILA, Philippines - In September, 1963, Harold and Darlene Sala began producing Guidelines – A Five-minute Commentary, using radio to reach men and women where they are, bringing them into confrontation with God’s plan for living.

In 1974 Harold and Darlene along with their three children, then ages 5, 10, and 13 moved to the Philippines, making their home in Quezon City. In the mid-70s Harold’s first book was published with OMF Literature and both he and Darlene became best-selling authors with their books widely distributed throughout the Philippines.

Then Guidelines for Living television was born and GMA 7 followed by ABC 5 began airing the popular program for seventeen years throughout the country and other Asian countries. Eventually The Philippine STAR began releasing a column featuring “Guidelines” in STARweek.

Over the years Guidelines has segued into three distinct areas of ministry known as “reaching” (radio, TV, internet and publications), “teaching” (family conferences, pastoral training), and “touching” (establishing the Nzoia School of Nursing in Kenya, care for orphans, support for third-world pastors, and helping establish Christian radio in remote areas of the world).

Guidelines is the longest-running five minute commentary on Christian radio, with its 13,001st consecutive program released on Sept. 2, 2013.
