A fine conspiracy
MANILA, Philippines - A mother-and-daughter team are engaged in a conspiracy in the name of fashion and philanthropy. Through the Center for Local Development Studies, Eva and Christine Yu will debut their respective creations in a dinner runway show tomorrow evening entitled “Montage: Conspire to Inspire” at the Luzon Ballroom of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza.
Mother Eva has been crafting jewelry from glass piece for many years under the trade name Jakfrut. She describes her pieces as “a predominantly symmetrical fusion of vintage and contemporary materials.” At the start her materials were predominantly antique and collectible glass beads; but as these became scarce, she has incorporated modern glass beads in her works alongside vintage materials. An exhibit of jewelry will be held at the venue of the dinner show.
Daughter Christine has been drawing since she was old enough to hold a pencil. Currently a second year student of fashion design at the St. Benilde College, she intends to master not just the design aspect of fashion, but more importantly the craft of fashion, including pattern making, cutting and sewing.
Instead of a fashion gap of the usual mother and daughter arguments over clothes – too boring vs too wild; matrona vs punkista – Eva and Christine have managed to harmonize their creations and bring their respective talents in synch for this show.
“Montage: Conspire to Inspire” provided the happy occasion for this fusion of talents, an opportunity to raise funds for the Moonwalk Health Clinic in Parañaque, a public clinic that urgently needs funds to purchase medical equipment and supplies to serve the community around St. Francis Street in Barangay Moonwalk.
Now this is one conspiracy that is worth supporting!
