Part of the CCP Earth Day celebration was a digital photo contest of pairs of photos, showing before and after scenes, contrasts, two moods of the same scene. The top three winners are shown on this page:
First prize went to Arnold Jumpay, a graduate of the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA), who showed two scenes of one place in Sabtang, Batanes (top two photos): one of the tide coming in and the other as a cow is slaughtered according to custom. Second prize was awarded to Manuel Rosario (middle photos), who contrasted earth cracked by drought with the life-giving force of a drop of water. Third prize went to Samuel Manaois, who told a story of catching a ride with fishermen who showed him a mangrove tree that they had planted, and as they sailed along, he discovered more and more young trees planted by fishermen who realize the value of nurturing their environment.
The 46 images from “Aninaw: Water for Life” spoke eloquently of the beauty as well as the fragility of our Earth, and echoed the need to care for it.
