Among the many possible treatments that scientists are studying to battle symptoms of COVID-19, Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) has been found effective in reducing and preventing the progression of symptoms, as well as providing relief.

Based on studies conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology, VCO supports faster recovery from signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

An in vitro study showed that lauric acid and monolaurin, compounds produced from VCO, decrease the coronavirus count by 60 to 90 percent at low viral load and may also strengthen the immune response against COVID-19.

Dr. Fabian Dayrit, who led the research in virgin coconut oil as an antiviral agent to prevent or reduce COVID-19 infection, said, “Through research and clinical trials on alternative treatments, we hope to lessen the burden of the health sector and Filipinos from COVID-19. With our current health crisis, it is vital that we trust and support science-backed solutions to beat COVID-19, especially virgin coconut oil, which is a readily available commodity in the country.”

To help boost the immune system of Filipinos and those battling the virus, Coco Mama has launched their own VCO.  They donated 500 bottles of Coco Mama Organic Virgin Coconut Oil to the local government unit of Manila, to quarantine facilities and hospitals, for the use of COVID-19 patients and frontliners in the city.

Marketing director for Emerging Business of Century Pacific Food Inc. (the company behind Coco Mama) Bryan Lingan said, “We are grateful that we are in a position to help Filipinos in their fight against the COVID19 virus. One of our goals in introducing this product is to help COVID-19 patients through a science-backed supplement that has been proven to boost the immune system and alleviate the symptoms of the virus.”

For COVID-19 patients in Manila city, bottles of Coco Mama Organic VCO were handed over by Lingan to the Manila City LGU, as well as to the COVID Field Hospital at Quirino Grandstand Ospital ng Maynila and Santa Ana Hospital.

Coco Mama is hoping that their VCO will help patients with COVID–19, strengthen their immune systems, as well as speed up their recovery.

Urban Gadgets opens in SM Mall of Asia

Urban Gadgets sells quality lifestyle and travel gadgets and accessories. Some of the brands they carry include GoPro, Bose, Pelican, Klean Kanteen, JBL, Vago, Kef, Dynaudio, Jabra, Ventev, Travel Blue and Monster.

Their employees were very lucky, as Urban Gadgets persisted despite the pandemic. They did not close any outlet in Metro Manila and admirably didn’t let go of any staff. They continued to serve their customers and continued to innovate, adding more brands (such as Insta 360, Jackery, Peak Design, Hyperdrive and DJI) to their stores.

One of the owners, Jonathan Tabisaura, said, “We learned that taking care of customers on a personal level is the lifeblood of the business. People were trying to find ways to cope with the pandemic and our way to help ease the feeling of isolation was simply by making our customers feel that we are still connected. Now that things are normalizing, we want to reach more customers to extend our brand of innovation and caring, and what better way to do that than to be in MOA?”

The Happy staff of Urban Gadgets

They opened their first branch in Ayala Malls Solenad in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, followed by another one in Ayala Malls The 30th on Meralco Avenue in Pasig City.  Two more branches followed: Vertis North and BGC in Taguig City.  Even during the pandemic, they opened their latest branch at SM Mall of Asia.

Tabisaura adds, “Because we wanted to always be readily available to check our stores and so that our staff can join in company activities, we decided it was best to keep the stores within Metro Manila for now so we closed down Solenad. However, we can ship nationwide so we’re still able to provide quality products to our customers through our online channels.”

Congratulations on the opening of your new store! It’s the next one I’m visiting!
