Disconnect to connect

Today’s modern technology blesses us with the convenience of being able to have almost anything in an instant. However, being constantly plugged in to the comforts of technology has also been a cause for disconnection with our surroundings’  natural flow.

Bryan Teves, the gifted artist behind the solo show Connected, said, “We need to wake up and recognize this sad reality. Our planet rapidly experiences environmental degradation day by day.”

Teves aims to raise awareness on the importance of reconnecting with nature and instigate consciousness on how we can save it for the future generation.

Upon entering 1335 Mabini Gallery in Makati City, one could immediately feel a sense of serenity. Seeing the images of humans enveloped with leaves, as if they were cocoons, helped the viewers slowly clear their minds and forget the outside world, even just for a moment. It was as if nature and the women on the canvas were telling us to join them.

Teves is a Filipino contemporary artist who hails from Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur. He has significantly contributed in the growth of Baguio’s art scene with the Baguio Arts Guild and has won multiple awards, such as in the 2012 Sining Philippine Stock Exchange National Art Competition and the 2015 Metrobank Design and Art Excellence.

With guidance from Derek Flores of DF Art Agency, I’m sure Bryan Teves will be able to reach an even wider audience in the future and send his important message. I hope that more people will join his indispensable cause and be encouraged to reconnect with Mother Earth.
