Giving back through education

With its aim to empower the youth to better their lives, Grohe partnered with the Don Bosco Youth Center to offer vocational apprenticeship programs with widely accepted graduation certificates through its Grohe Dual Tech partnership program.

Recently, the company awarded its first batch of 42 internationally certified students who have completed a vocational course on General Maintenance Technician (GMT).

Present at the training facility center in Don Bosco Youth Center in Tondo, Manila to personally hand out the certificates were Grohe management board member Michael Mager, Grohe Germany vice president for training and management development Timo Kurz, global product manager Manfred Küehn and Lixil Philippines general manager Alpha Ang. Joining them were Don Bosco Youth Center rector Rev. Fr. Gaudencio Carandang Jr., SDB and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) director Rev. Fr. Manuel Nicolas, SDB.

The GMT course ran for a total of 15 months: 10 months in the training center trained by Filipino mentors accredited by Grohe and a five-month internship in Don Bosco-partner companies. It covers TESDA-certified electrical and ref and air-conditioning courses and is also tied up with a special plumbing course internationally certified by Grohe.

Part of the program’s graduation requirement was the construction of public restrooms of the St. John Bosco Parish. The construction was sponsored by Grohe, Lixil Philippines, together with American Standard and Tostem and Wilcon Depot.
