Artist Odang’s third solo show titled The Freakshow, held at the Art Underground in Mandaluyong City, presented an imagined circus or “freak show” that trivialized people in power, who are known for their alleged disservice to the public.
The Freakshow was a presentation of grisly interpretations of half-human-half-animal creatures, which highlighted unusual physical features that might disturb or cause unrest.
Art enthusiasts, even just the curious, can’t get enough of Odang’s works as they are always sold out, hence the demand for his works gets higher. He meticulously and painstakingly draws and brushes with graphite and charcoal. The detail and the time he puts into these works on paper can clearly be seen.
Odang is a self-taught artist, who apprenticed with Rene Cuvos. He graduated with an Information Technology degree majoring in Visual Graphics at Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Information Technology Training Institute in Las Piñas City.
I couldn’t get my hands on a piece from this show but I still treasure the work I got from his first solo show. Let’s just hope he has time to do more of his wonderful works on paper so I (along with a long list of art collectors) could get an Odang artwork soon.
