Psychic Chasms

For her eighth solo exhibition at ArtistSpace at the Ayala Museum, Iya Consorio presented Psychic Chasms — a collection of paintings that mostly portrayed a child-woman with an octopus body called Eiko.

Art lovers recall seeing Eiko for the first time in this year’s Art Fair Philippines at The Link in Makati City where Consorio’s 40 pieces of sculpture were displayed at the booth of Secret Fresh. Collectors and enthusiasts tried to get their hands on the limited edition designer toy called Evening Dress, sadly many were not able to. This also happened at Consorio’s most recent exhibit where her works were again sold out. 

Consorio graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at the University of Santo Tomas.

We all look forward to seeing much more of her sought-after and very imaginative works.

Celebrating Colombia Day

Local and foreign dignitaries gathered at the residence of the Aranetas in Quezon City to celebrate the 205th anniversary of Colombian Independence. 

Leading the celebration were Chargé d’Affaires of the Honorary Consulate of Colombia to the Philippines Stella Marquez-Araneta and her husband, Araneta Group chairman and CEO Jorge Araneta.

At the event, a video of Colombian President Juan Manuel conveyed a message of solidarity with Colombian citizens and friends all over the world, after which the hosts of the evening led a toast to Philippine-Colombian friendship. They were joined by Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Guiseppe Pinto and Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, who then delivered a speech on the solid and continuing Colombia-Philippine relations.

Also in attendance were Ambassadors Philip Goldberg of the United States, L.D. Ralte of India, Johny Lumintang of Indonesia, Luis Lillo of Chile, Igor Khovaev of Russia, Kok Li Peng of Singapore and Juvencio de Jesus Martins of Timor Leste.

The event also gathered the ladies from Binibining Pilipinas, which Stella Marquez-Araneta leads. The beauty queens seen at the event were Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach with Binibining Pilipinas titlists Ariella Arida, Kimverlyn Suiza, Rogelie Catacutan, Christi McGarry, Ann Lorraine Colis and Janicel Lubina.

Guests feasted on a sumptuous dinner, including traditional Colombian dishes like the hearty meat dish called sancocho, as traditional Colombian music played in the background. (Follow me on Instagram @pepperteehankee.)
