A fine wine experience

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Wine enthusiasts gathered at Chef Jessie at Rockwell Club recently to share good food and exceptionally good wine from Nederburg, South Africa’s most awarded winery that was founded in 1791.

Present at the event were Nederburg’s very own winemaker Wilhelm Pienaar and Sam Martin, Distell’s business manager for China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Australia and the Philippines.

Guests savored the Nederburg Winemaster’s Reserve Sauvignon Blanc especially flown in for the occasion with chef Jessie Sincioco’s fine cuisine that included fish mousse with caviar on toast, gougère fried mozarella roll complemented by Nederburg Anchorman Heritage Heroes Range – Chenin Blanc. Ciabatta bread, rolls, butter and special dip, country paté with Cumberland sauce served on a bed of assorted lettuce were paired with Nederburg Winemaster Reserve Pinotage. Grilled ostrich steak in sun-dried tomato sauce served with sweet potato mash and sautéed French beans was paired with The Brewmaster Heritage Heroes Range — Cabernet Sauvignon. Bread pudding in butterscotch sauce a la mode was perfect with the sweet Nederburg Noble Late Harvest.

Nederburg wine’s subtle hint of spices and exotic fruit notes offered a perfect pairing with the fine cuisine of Chef Jessie making it a truly unforgettable dining experience. Music was supplied by DJ Nina and the program was hosted by DJ Jada.

Future Trade International’s chief marketing officer Yogi Ringler said, “Nederburg offers the palate an unequalled experience where the unique combination of climate, fertile soil, grape variety coupled with the precise mastery of wine making provides a unique flavor profile that has made Nederburg the most awarded and desired South African wine.”

Nederburg was chosen as the Winery of the Year in the Platter South African Wine Guide, with an unprecedented five of its wines across the multi-tiered range earning five-star ratings in the 2011 edition. Nederburg triumphed in Australia at the 2010 Tri-Nations Wine Challenge, winning the trophy for top dessert wine. It was also awarded a trophy for the most successful producer on the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show in 2008, and again in 2009 and produced the winning Shiraz in the 2008 Lexus Wine Shiraz Challenge.
