MANILA, Philippines - Jazz and salsa enthusiasts can look forward to a night of eclectic afro-funk jazz, authentic salsa dancing, and sultry Latin music on Monday, Feb. 24, as international salsa sensation Banda Orbita performs live at Mandarin Oriental Manila’s Martinis bar at 9:30 p.m.
Hailing from all over the world, including Cuba, Madagascar, the Philippines and the UK, Banda Orbita’s members are driven by their shared passion for music. Taking center stage at Martinis will be Banda Orbita’s Cuban master percussionist and multi-instrumentalist David Chala and homegrown afro-Cuban Floro Sernande.
Founded in Hong Kong in 2010, Banda Orbita started out as a revolutionary underground music movement. Their music focuses on fiery tunes played with original arrangements, accentuating various afro-Cuban and jazz elements with material that includes tunes by artists such as Tito Puente, Michel Camilo, Seis del Solar, Irakere and Cal Tjader.
