‘Phenomenal’

MANILA, Philippines - The 23-year-old violin virtuoso Chino Gutierrez recently wowed his audience during his solo recital titled Revelry, live. love. dance at the Francisco Santiago Hall, BDO Tower 1, Makati City. Accompanying him at the piano was noted pianist Corazon Pineda Kabayao. Gutierrez, who studies at the prestigious Munich State Academy of Music & Theater, played pieces from renowned composers Eugène Ysaÿe, César Franck, Igor Stravinsky, Antonín Dvořák, Henryk Wieniawski and Joseph-Maurice Ravel. He also played a much-applauded special number titled La Deportacion, composed by our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, during his Dapitan exile, as transcribed by virtuoso Gilopez Kabayao. Gutierrez, who reaped three standing ovations at this recent concert, has won acclaim from various critics here and abroad. STAR’s Rosalinda Orosa, after listening to him at his recent recital, termed him “phenomenal Chino.” He hopes to return to Munich in March 2014 to complete his bachelor of music studies and aims to put his beloved native country on the map of classical violin.
