MANILA, Philippines - The local promoters of the Broadway musical Wicked have announced that they will have a benefit show on Jan. 31, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. In addition to this matinee show, there will also be an auction after curtain call, which is geared to raise more funds for the people affected by typhoon Yolanda.
Cast members of Wicked heard about the calamity and sent encouraging words to the Philippines. “You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We’re sending you all our love and strength,†said Wicked’s two leading ladies Jemma Rix and Suzie Mathers.
Jay Laga’aia, who plays the Wizard, said, “I would like to add my voice to the many who are wishing you a speedy recovery, not only of the country but also of your spirit.â€
Catch Wicked from Jan. 22 to Feb. 23, 2014 at the CCP Main Theater. Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production is directed by Joe Mantello with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. The Philippine season of Wicked is produced by Marc Platt, David Stone, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B.
