‘Saturday Night Forever’

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee - The Philippine Star

Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran-Floirendo proudly turned 60 recently and celebrated her birthday with a disco party dubbed “Saturday Night Forever” at Whitespace in Makati City. Margie still looks as gorgeous as she did when she won that coveted title.

Friends and family created a fun atmosphere for Margie’s birthday party that was filled with dancing and laughter. Guests were dancing to the ‘70s music by Mulatto. Margie danced with three male partners at the party. Serenading her that night was Cocoy Laurel, her co-star in the movie Oh! Margie Oh!, which I watched when I was a kid.

Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas was there as well and sang a couple of songs for the birthday girl. The Aldeguer sisters, Terry and Lally, did a dance number; Mitch Valdes had a comedy skit; and Ballet Philippines danced a contemporary tango. Some of Margie’s close friends also did a Miss Universe spoof in honor of her.

That night, the ever-gracious patron of the arts even requested that, in lieu of gifts, a donation to Ballet Philippines Foundation or Habitat for Humanity Philippines would be more appreciated.

It was a great night reminiscent of the jovial disco days of the ‘70s. More than that, it was a wonderful celebration for an equally wonderful woman who is beautiful inside and out.

Happy birthday, Margie!
