Nina Garcia thrills Manila
Project Runway judge Nina Garcia was the special guest at the JAG Origins show during the 2013 Philippine Fashion Week at the SMX Convention Center.
Nina wore a black, haltered crepe dress with silver lamé crocodile pattern when she shared her wisdom about the fashion industry in an interview with Boy Abunda.
JAG Jeans flew in Nina, also the creative director of Marie Claire, as the inaugural speaker of JAG Origins, which the brand envisioned to be an annual event promoting fashion, marketing and creative thinking among industry and art/fashion students.
JAG Jeans also hosted cocktails where Nina got to meet some members of the press, designers and those in the Manila fashion scene.
The fashion event, hosted by Sarah Meier, opened with a fashion show to launch JAG Jeans 2013 Holiday Collection that featured the ankle-cut jeans for women and stretch denim for men.
A highlight of JAG Origins was the presentation of young designers Norman Noriega, Jeffrey Rogador and Jerome Salaya Ang who showcased their collections.
Nina advised aspiring designers, “You should have the passion, the drive and the desire to be in the business. It is important to know a lot about culture, to know a lot about the arts, to know some about business. It’s really art and commerce.â€
Watch and learn
After its successful launch in Europe, North America and many parts of Asia, the Tokyo-inspired and UK brand Superdry has finally unveiled its wristwatch line in the Philippines.
Superdry is known for capturing elements of urban and streetwear designs with subtle combinations of vintage American, Japanese imagery and British tailoring — all with strong attention to detail. It is fast becoming the brand of choice for A-list celebrities including actors, musicians and sports stars, with big names such as David Beckham, Nicole Scherzinger and Cory Monteith.
Very soon, there will be a new follow-up collection that features, among others, the newest embodiment of the trendy diving-watch-inspired Scuba Collection.
This modern, bold and striking timepiece with a clean yet powerful palette is certainly for the more fashion-conscious of wearers. The Scuba watch is made complete by a prominent Superdry-branded matte dial that comes in multi-color pops and set on a silicone bracelet with stainless steel casing. This robust timepiece is perfect for everyday wear, and equally as fitting on a night on the town. The new Scuba Collection, water resistant up to 10 atm, is described by many as “a bold watch with an adventurous style.â€
Each watch represents timeless utilitarian silhouette housed in stainless steel watch case, and is powered by high-quality mechanisms such as Japanese Seiko or Miyota movements.
The timepieces have intricately detailed and bold watch dials. All watches are finished with modern straps and bracelets of various materials from thick quality leather, stainless steel to canvas.
The various details of the watch straps include layered and wide leather straps with perforated detailing for the Harness, Thor and Triton collection; stylish dyed leather straps for the Charterhouse collection; ultra chic canvas straps for the Field collection; playful silicone straps for the Scuba collection; and classic stainless steel bracelets for the Battalion collection
The Superdry watch collection is available at L Timestudio in SM Southmall, Robinsons Galleria, Robinsons Place Manila, Greenhills Shopping Center, SM Marikina and SM City Pampanga; at Swiss Gear in Greenbelt 1 and SM North EDSA; and at Wristpod at Bonifacio High Street and SM Megamall.
