Over 500 guests attended the dinner. Mike Romero, Carlo Cua, TESDA Secretary Joel Villanueva, Rep. Bem Noel, former Cavite Rep. Gilbert Remulla, Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez and members of the Wee family of the W Group (who kindly hosted the event).
There was a short program composed of testimonials. It was hosted by Marikina City Rep. Miro Quimbo.
At the end of the dinner, Sonny thanked everyone who attended. “Thank you very much for coming here. I am very grateful because even if many of you are in business and are not interested in politics, you still came to this dinner to support me,†he said.
Bring your own beat
One night, there were two DJs and a club full of people tweeting away their favorite party hits.
CloseUp threw the first ever Bring Your Own Beat (BYOB) party at the Privé Luxury Club. Its brand manager Brian Duruin said, “The brand has always been associated with music, so we thought of throwing a party where you can actually bring your own beat.â€
Throughout the night, guests and those in the “Twittersphere†suggested their favorite party songs by tweeting with the #CloseUpBYOB hashtag. From last summer’s hit Call Me Maybe to the most popular electric dance music tracks, DJs Clyde Harris and Mars Miranda blasted one party song after another to give all guests beats to dance to.
The event, hosted by Aaron Atayde, also launched CloseUp’s newest Get Fresh, Get Close music video by Karl Wolf. Afterwards, DJ Mars played his own mix of the song while the Philippine All Stars dance group grooved to the beat.
Others seen were Laureen Uy, David Guison, Vern Enciso, Shai Lagarde and Seph Cham, Mike Concepcion, Ava Daza, Jeff Ortega, Erin Lane, Lorraine Lapus and Andi Manzano.

Fun and music at St. Patrick’s Ball
The St. Patrick’s Society of Manila is all about craic agus ceoil, which means “fun and music.†The organization gives the Irish community in the country and anyone interested in the Gaelic culture an opportunity to come together throughout the year. Members of the society are diverse in age and background, from its young students to its elder clergy missionaries. The society’s activities include golf days, Gaelic football matches, charity missions, music nights and watching Irish sporting events.
The annual charity ball is the highlight of St. Patrick’s Society of Manila’s calendar. The ball is a fundraising charity event that supports institutions that provide basic needs to orphanages and schooling for the street children. It also has a feeding program and the project that provides shelter to the homeless.
This year’s ball is on March 23 and will be held at the Southgate Mall’s The Tents (Pasong Tamo Extension cor. EDSA). The event will display Irish culture, which will start with a gastronomic cocktail and dinner treats from chef Billy King. It will be followed by the Riverdance performance and a traditional and modern music from our own Irish/Filipino band, Spirit of Jameson.
Event sponsors are Etihad, Cebu Pacific, Murphy’s Bar, Mulligans Irish Pub, Le Chef Restaurant (Baguio), Fortune Hotels, Lane Archive Technologies and Lane Moving & Storage.
