20 years of travel

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee - The Philippine Star

The very first one-stop travel shop in Manila opened 20 years ago when the Primer Group of Companies saw what was missing in local shopping. The Travel Club has grown from a small independent luggage store in SM Megamall in 1992 to a multi-branch outfit found all over the Philippines.

Tessa Prieto-Valdes hosted the event to mark the store’s milestone. The Travel Club carries brands such as Tumi, Ace, World Traveller, Victorinox, Delsey and Mendoza. In its shelves can also be found casual brands like JanSport, Timbuk2, Hedgren, High Sierra, Eastpak and Healthy Back Bag.

The Travel Club also supports practical and environment-friendly ways to travel. Mad About Travel, a yearly event mounted by the store and the Primer Group of Companies, has become an anticipated gathering for travel enthusiasts. In 2012, the events in Cebu, Davao and Manila were highly attended by local shoppers. And to make this 20th year even more special, the patrons of the store were given the chance to avail themselves of The Travel Club Platinum MasterCard under Allied Bank.

The concept store has been awarded several times for its efforts in promoting travel by the Department of Trade and Industry, which, along with the Philippine Retailers Association, has also recognized The Travel Club’s brilliance by awarding the store with the Outstanding Filipino Retailer award three times.

Guests went home with bags and other traveling paraphernalia from The Travel Club.
