The velada is a time-honored tradition of the Assumption Convent high school. The members of Class of 1962 joined the recent revelry and proved their worth as Golden jubilarians. After 50 years out of high school, they still gracefully grooved to the music of their time.
Leading the performance of the Batch ‘62 were executive committee co-chairs Nini Santos-Valdez and Cora Relova. They were supported by committee heads like Entang del Prado-Carballo (treasury), Maricar Mirasol-Flores (secretariat), Levy Garcia-Sanz (ways and means) and Mercy Angeles-Padilla (membership).
The 2012 Golden Girls performed at the velada show wearing the same colorful frocks with matching gold chains around their necks and dangling earrings. The lively audience cheered them on as they danced to the music of their generation. Cora Relova, Omang Quirino-Palanca and Loury Urtula-Lacson even did a dance medley.
It took them more than a year to prepare for this event. The meticulous planning was done over their lunch sessions, during their monthly meetings and weekly rehearsals. They were also able to produce a memorabilia and a commemorative yearbook conceptualized by Ching de Leon-Escaler, with the help of Lulu Comcom-Malvar, Marichi Gana-Picazo and Tali Revilla-Liongson.
The members of the batch also designed a unique Century Calendar, which tells with amazing accuracy what day within 100 years a date would fall. The group even had spiritual immersions, including a healing Mass and a one-day recollection facilitated by the gracious Nena Tantoco with Fr. Dennis Paez as spiritual director.
Even their batchmates from abroad composed of Bengget Jison-Santamaria, Wennie Montano-Santos, Dr. Enggot Bautista-Dionisio, Josie Melencio-Pickard, Carina Sto. Domingo-Garcia, Mary Salman-Sherris, Coco Perez-Relova, Aida Reyes-Valencia, Regina Pleno-Kee and Mille Lopez-Jones showed everyone that they still got it. They were choreographed by Jeremy Vallejo.
