The life and works of Levi Celerio - in fashion

Even in the world of fashion, the music of the late National Artist Levi Celerio makes a mark. 

As its way of paying tribute to our National Artists, Freeway, a fashion brand, honors Celerio this month through its seventh National Artist Collectors series.

The series has featured National Artists Nick Joaquin (literature), Ang Kiukok (visual arts), Jose Garcia Villa (literature), Ramon Valera (fashion design), F. Sionil José (literature) and Vicente Manansala (visual arts).

Celerio, a composer and songwriter, was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Record as the only person able to make music using just a leaf. He was proclaimed National Artist for Music and Literature in 1997.

Freeway gathered fashion and music enthusiasts, media and bloggers, and the family and friends of Levi Celerio to celebrate the life and works of the Filipino music prodigy at The Row in Glorietta 5. The event was hosted by former Freeway poster girl Giselle ‘G’ Tongi. She was joined by cultural historian and a music critic Dr. Antonio Hila, who shared interesting trivia about Celerio and his dedication and love for music. The audience participated in the discussion via live tweeting on the LED screen onstage. 

One of the highlights of the night was the musical performance of Levi Celerio’s songs by Pilita Corrales. Guests were treated to cocktails. They also took home a limited edition miniature Levi Celerio harmonica necklace that actually works!
