A hint of gold for Members Only

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee -

Members Only, the country’s first and only private membership bar, recently turned two. In celebration of its second anniversary, the exclusive lounge opened its doors to members and the public.

The ladies gave a nod to the night’s “Hint of Gold” theme as they sparkled in gold-flecked ensembles, while the men were dressed in dapper suits. The interiors of the place resonated with the same golden touch — black-and-gold cocktail tables, golden drapes and white and gold flower arrangements were all around.

Tunes from the Rat Pack were the music choice of the night as a jazz band provided the night’s entertainment. After that, Members Only resident DJs Mars Miranda, Marie Garcia, Ralph Roy, Christian Raeuber and Karl Ty each took turns at the tables, ensuring that the crowd partied on until the wee hours of the morning.

Festivities took a short pause as the trio of Members Only owners GP Reyes, Erik Cua and Louie Ysmael took to the stage to offer a toast in honor of the night’s special anniversary. Guests raised their Patron and Johnnie Walker filled shot glasses, clinking away in honor of the two solid years of pure enjoyment that Members Only has had to offer.

Pushing the limits with Oakley

Oakley, one of the most coveted brands in performance technology and lifestyle eyewear since 1975, had major part in the Cobra Ironman 70.3 with a total distance of 70.3 kilometers and combining an open water swim, a tough bicycle ride and a long-distance run.

Oakley provides eyewear that has been field-tested, with aggressive design technology captured in quality materials. This year, one of the biggest triathlons in the country, Cobra Ironman 70.3, gathered athletes who tested their endurance and speed while wearing their favorite pair of Oakleys.

Fred Uytengsu swears by his Oakley sunglasses because of its great optics. “I look for lens clarity and frame durability,” tells this avid triathlete for 12 years. Tessa Prieto-Valdes never runs without her Oakley eyewear. “They are photogenic so every angle of my face looks great. It doesn’t feel heavy even after a full marathon,” she adds. Her husband, Dennis Valdes, president of Philweb Corp., likes that he can personalize his Oakley sunglasses. He says, “I can customize them to my eyeglass prescription. This way my shades do not only look good, they are functional as well.”

Two-time female group CamSur Ironman 70.3 winner Amanda Carpo says, “Oakley has really thought all the features of these shades through. They really have superior lenses, the best design and the best fit.” First Philippine Mount Everest Expedition member Leo Oracion likes how “it makes you look cool when you are wearing it.” Financial services executive and racer Larry Ocampo states, “It needs to really stay in place and be comfortable at the same time,” he says. He’s glad Oakley sunglasses give him everything he wants and a lot more features. “I like its fit, comfort and sharp optics, plus it looks cool, too!”

Others spotted sporting Oakley sunglasses during the sporting event were Bea Locsin, Joey Singuian, Nona Torres, Simon Heo, Diego Carballo, Ernie Lopez and Rio dela Cruz. Also spotted in their Oakleys are none other than the champs of the Ironman 70.3 2010 Men’s Division Champion Australian Pete Jacobs, 2009 Men’s Division Champion Terrenzo Bozzone from New Zealand and 2010 Women’s Division Champion Canadian Magali Tisseyre.

Choose from the Active Collection — Dispatch, Fuel Cell, Jupiter Ducati, Probation and Scalpel or Sports Collection — Jawbone Radar Anti-freeze and Split Jacket all equipped with high definition optics. Oakley eyewear virtually eliminates the problems of ordinary lenses, including distortion that bends light and optical flaws. All the sunglasses are durable for all-day comfort and are sure to be lightweight and stress resistant. Check them out!
