Trunks and toys by Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton chose Manila to inaugurate the Trunks & Toys Exhibition, a thematic regional trunk exhibition, to celebrate the luxury brand’s “Savoir Faire and Craftsmanship.” The exhibit commemorates its legacy in travel culture. Louis Vuitton classic designs belong to the history of stylish travel and these designs have attained timeless and cult status.
The display of rare antique wardrobe trunks and luggage from the Louis Vuitton Museum Collection opened at the Level 2, Greenbelt 5 mall. The curator for Louis Vuitton’s Department of Heritage Raphael Gerard flew in from Paris for the event. Some trunks date back to 1885. Ten well-preserved trunks and boxes from the Louis Vuitton Museum in Asnieres, among which the oldest dates back to circa 1880, were flown in.
The exhibition tour was followed by a cocktail at the Level 3, Gallery Greenbelt 5 mall. President of Louis Vuitton Asia Pacific Jean Baptiste Debains welcomed guests while Hong Kong DJ Janva set the tone for the evening.
A especially designed pamphlet was presented to all visitors at the exhibition, describing the history and background of these 10 prestige trunks, 12 toys and 10 artworks by Jean Larivière.
In 1978, Louis Vuitton commissioned Larivière to create a series of photos for the brand’s catalogue — an assignment that would take him from Guadalupe to Rajasthan and New York to Yemen. Those photos marked the beginning of 20 wonderful years of close collaboration.
Louis Vuitton is located at the ground floor of Greenbelt 4, Ayala Malls, Makati City.
