Drama Cuna at the National Museum

It’s the type of drama only Rachy Cuna can think of. The country’s floral architect is at it again — creating masterpieces that delight the senses and promote our Filipino heritage.

Rachy opened his installation exhibit entitled Drama Cuna at the National Museum in Manila with 14 installations that have never been seen before. There are also paintings and jewelry on exhibit. There was no guest of honor because for Rachy, the Filipino people are his guests of honor. As such, each guest was given flowers made of rattan sticks, playfully worn by guests around their heads, wrists, hands, arms and even hips.

The Bayanihan Dance Company performed at the affair. Rachy’s installations made use of materials that are commonly found in the surroundings — vines, twigs, bamboo, fossilized flowers and leaves among other “found objects.”

In Atin Ito, Rachy created a hollow mound made of rattan sticks in pink. Siopao steamers represent Rachy’s Chinese connection in the work Chinoy Me. Oversized bird cages formed a little valley and was named Kulasisi. Wooden clogs (bakya) were hung and derived a new form in ... Mo Neneng. Samyo was an installation piece made of colorful blown glass. Gathered fossilized flowers and wood rose made into a boat was called Papalaot. Very ingenious is the Bola-bolahan, a take on Pinoy’s favorite pastime — the playing of Bingo! Bingo shakers are turned into vases while Bingo cards were cut and formed flower petals.

Truly Pinoy is the flavor of Rachy’s exhibit. His installations prove his pride of his culture and heritage.

Drama Cuna runs until March 28.

Valentine with Vuitton

Louis Vuitton in Greenbelt 4 hosted a private Valentine’s event to usher in the season of love and for one evening, the store was transformed into a lush outdoor Parisian park. There was a vintage cotton candy machine outside the store as a teaser to the garden that awaited guests inside the store.

Lush greenery, red roses and Louis Vuitton topiaries filled the store together with large birdcages that encased the newest products of the season for both women and men.

Guests were treated to a peek at the Spring Summer 2010 collection. All eyes were on the Monogram Eden that was pre-launched that night. A special watch and jewelry caravan was the focal point of the store, which was packed with guests who were welcomed by LV Philippines brand director Rhea de Vera-Aguirre and GM for Micronesia Edouard Faure.

Sweet 16

Fila’s Cris and Butch Albert celebrated their 16th anniversary at the mezzanine of Nuvo with close friends, family and business partners.

The early night started with relaxing cocktails that stretched to midnight with the perfect combination of great food, great company and booze. Pasta pomodoro, poached chicken roulade, assorted maki, beef salpicao, grilled sausages and baked clams and mussels were served amidst meticulously arranged by Cris herself. Speeches and dancing were also part of the fun party.

At midnight, Cris and Butch said their farewells for a fairy-tale ending for their 16th anniversary of wedded bliss. Happy anniversary!
