Thai high

The Thai National Day was held at the grand ballroom of Dusit Thani Hotel. Thais throughout the country gather for a celebration in honor of His Majesty the King of Thailand’s 82nd birthday. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the ninth King of the Chakri Dynasty, is the world’s longest reigning monarch. For the Thai people, the beloved King symbolically represents the Father of the Nation and for that reason, his birthday is also Father’s Day in Thailand. Panoramas of His Majesty the King’s Royal Initiative Projects were set up to create an educational exhibit.

Thai Ambassador Kulkumut Singhara Na Ayudhaya welcomed the distinguished guests. The welcome entourage was followed by Minister Counsellor Chakorn Suchiva; Group Captain Nathpong Viriyakupt, Thai Air Attache; Captain Wilers Smabut, Thai Naval Attache; and Minister Suree Jirattikankul of the Commercial Section. Guests were also met by Thai hostesses handing out fresh orchid corsages from Thai Airways, courtesy of GM Nivat Chantarachoti

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo, accompanied by his wife Lovely, was the chief guest of the night. The Royal Thai Embassy together with the Thai community led the feast of different Thai restaurants in Manila such as Thai Patio, Thai Silk, Oody’s, People’s Palace and Jariya’s Kitchen to name a few while the Siam Cement Group of Companies presented its imported array of construction and structural merchandise.

The evening ended with a candle lighting ceremony while singing the Royal Anthem as homage to His Majesty the King and the monarchy. The Thai Airways team handed guests with Thai sweets on the way out. The event was also a celebration of the harmonious relationship shared by Thais and Filipinos.
