A series of ‘Prive’
A series of fashion parties kicked off at the exclusive Members Only at the Fort. Called “Prive,” these Wednesday night-style parties were conceived to preview the latest collections of some of Manila’s most sought-after designers as worn by their favorite muses.
The festivities began with one of the most prolific yet original young designers in the country today, Puey Quinones. He dressed 12 of his favorite muses namely Divine Lee, Lulu Tan Gan, Carmina Sanchez, Mai Kaufman, Candy Dizon, Cat Arambulo, Solenn Heuseff, Pia Campos, Ange dela Cruz, Lara Parpan, Ria Bolivar and Isabelle Collins.
Free flowing 42 Below Vodka kept the party going all night, especially with fruity yet quirky concoction called Sea Breeze.
The following week was designer Charina Sarte’s turn with her collection called “Mighty Aphrodite” showcasing her own live goddesses, which included Ruffa Gutierrez, Heart Evangelista, Divine Lee, Tisha Silang, Claudine Trillo, Phoemela Baranda, Ava Daza and Cheryl Tantengco. The ladies wore Grecian-inspired dresses with leather harnesses. The world’s number one premium rum Bacardi kept the evening’s crowd relaxed and alive with yummy cocktails.

Turkish delights
Looking for an authentic Turkish doner in Manila? My friend Jacob Cortes has opened Jacob’s Shawarma, a place that serves the real Turkish shawarma. The shawarma is huge! I had to split one with my mom...
The doner is stuffed with grilled chicken, a tomato and onion salad, French fries and some other sauces Jacob prepares. The place also serves Turkish coffee (yes, the very strong one) and Turkish tea. It also serves a Turkish drink made of yoghurt and baklava, a heavenly concoction that is light, crispy, stuffed with honey and walnuts, sprinkled with pistachio and is not too sweet.
(Jacob’s Shawarma delivers within the Pasig area. It also accepts catering. Call 706-5699 for more information. The shawarma place is open 24 hours except on Sundays. It is located at 115 AIC Grande Tower, Sapphire Road, Ortigas Center.)
