A few honorable men

Two distinguished gentlemen who have given so much for the country — Benpres Holdings Corp. chairman and CEO Oscar Lopez and Sen. Manny Villar — were recently conferred with the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa by the Philippine Women’s University (PWU) at the Philippine International Convention Center. The conferment was led by PWU chairperson Dr. Helena Benitez and president Dr. Amelou Benitez Reyes, during the 86th commencement exercises of the first university for women in Asia.

Congratulations!

A taste of Asian culture

It was a week-long showcase of China’s rich and colorful heritage as premier lifestyle destination Shangri-La Plaza, led by its president lawyer Andy Bautista and EVP and GM Lala Fojas, recently treated well-heeled guests and mall patrons to a remarkable exhibit of Chinese paintings and award-winning films during its successful Chinese Spring Film Festival. The event was done in partnership with Ateneo de Manila University’s Ricardo Leong, Center for Chinese Studies and the Ateneo Celadon.

Congratulations!

For the love of music

The incredibly versatile George Sison, the first Filipino composer ever to become a member of the American Guild of Authors and Composers –– who has also worn many hats from best-selling author, painter-poet, astrologer, spiritual guru and even restaurateur –– has recently introduced a gem of an album entitled Only Love Remains at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). Hundreds of notable guests from the social, entertainment and business sectors flocked to the affair to experience the poignant and soulful music of George. It was indeed a fine evening as everyone got a sampling of George’s sensational music through a captivating serenade by consummate concert pianist Raul Sunico and premiere classical balladeer Bo Cerrudo, who performed excellent renditions of his songs What Name Shall I Give You My Love? and Se Potessi Un di Rinascere.

Congratulations!
