For all mankind
The denim brand 7 For All Mankind is here. I have been wearing this brand of jeans for quite some time and it is known for its staple pieces and classic denims.
The Gallery area of Greenbelt 5 was filled in celebration of 7. Coming in styles known as Dojo, Lexie, Gwenevere, Flynt and in other signature pocket designs like squiggle, a-pocket and bejeweled, 7 For All Mankind did an all out show that showcased the finest denim basics and ensembles.
Accompanying the night of fashion is the infusion of arts with a special exhibition. Fashion designer Kate Torralba presented her live mannequins donning her latest collection paired with 7 For All Mankind jeans alongside her poetry and melodic tunes. Photographer Noelle Hernandez exhibited the masculinity and femininity of 7 jeans in a photo. Lomomanila showcased various lomographic photos that truly captivated the voyeuristic eye. Artist Nikki Luna presented her installation art featuring a heart made of anything silver, cut out from a box. Visual artist Maki Navarette also showcased an art installation featuring a crisp white polo, trendy slip-ons and the 7 For All Mankind jeans. WeWillDoodle members showcased their creativity while doodling on the white canvasses on stage. DJ Johnny Verse set the evening’s mood with his hip beats and music mixes.
Dressed in their favorite 7 For All Mankind jeans, style mavens wore their favorite jeans like the boot cut for Tessa Valdes, Marilen Elizalde and Fely Atienza. Select pieces were worn by Thai at Silk and Terraces at 5th chef Cecille Ysmael, Race car driver Gaby dela Merced, Barbara Aboitiz and Joyce Oreña.
Rafa Alunan, Chris Feist, David Kaufman, Mikee Romero, Manu Sandejas, Phil Younghusband and VMV’s Juan Pablo Bertotto also came in their favorite 7 For All Mankind pair.
Present were the brand’s team led by 7 For All Mankind-Philippines president Adamson Bactat, vice president/general manager Guiliano Sartori, chief operating officer Bing Mejino, brand director Wendell Cunanan and brand manager Aprille Cabrera.
(7 For All Mankind is located at Greenbelt 5, Robinson’s Place Midtown Wing and soon to open flagship store at 1st floor Power Plant Mall.)
Culinary team Pilipinas ready to defend title
The Les Toques Blanches (LTB) - Philippines Culinary Team made headlines in 2007 when it brought home the gold and the Best of the Best trophy from the Gourmet Team Challenge of the Hong Kong International Culinary Classic (HKICC).
On May 9, they will be giving the top honors at the same event another shot with the line-up composed of Marge Villena of Lolo Dad’s Café, Andy Tabotabo of Lolo Dad’s Brasserie, pastry chef Pauline Lagdameo and chef baker Bubbles Lerias of the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management (ISCAHM). Ariel Manuel of Lolo Dad’s Café will be team captain once more while Fernando Aracama of Embassy-Cuisine occupies the post of team manager. Lending them assistance are Jopz Legaspi and David Uy of ISCAHM, Mark Lesaca of Lolo Dad’s Brasserie and Johndy Rivera and Ria Mendoza of the Malacañang Palace with Nana Nadal handling PR and logistics. All the activities will be under the supervision of LTB director J Gamboa of Cirkulo and Milkyway Restaurants and LTB president Othmar Frei of Werdenberg International Corp.
The Gourmet Team Challenge category gastronomic masterpiece is a cold buffet spread consisting of 27 different items such as tapas, soup, appetizers, desserts, cakes, artisanal breads, seafood and poultry platters which have to be prepared and presented to the judges in 24 hours. Metal and glass artist Mike Aguas of Vulcan Resources designed and manufactured the display especially for the competition from recycled steel weaved and formed into cantilevered shelves. The theme, “Renewable and Sustainable Cuisine” will be evident in both the menu and display.
There will be live cooking events as well, to be taken on by Carlo Miguel of Sala Restaurant. He will be participating in two categories. Ariel Manuel will also be joining the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Global Chef Challenge, a live market basket cooking event where the competitor makes a menu from the ingredients presented and cooks a four-course meal in five hours. If Chef Ariel wins this category, he will represent Asia at the World Finals in the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Congress in Santiago, Chile in January 2010.
The LTB-Philippines Culinary team is supported by Ajinomoto, Werdenberg International Corp., PTC, Mida Foods, Selecta, Alternatives Food Corp., San Miguel Purefoods, Fonterra, Meat and Livestock Australia, Unilever Foodsolutions, Golden Acres Food Service, Happy Living Fine Wines, Sweetlink - Siliconezone Products, Chef Revival, Philippine Airlines, Kyocera Ceramic Knives, Gourdos and KLG.
The practice round of the team was truly amazing with dishes such as cotton candy covered foie gras and grilled kobe beef with Hollandaise sauce. Get a taste of the team members’ buffet entry and help them raise funds by attending their last practice dinner scheduled on April 19, Sunday, 7 p.m. at Cirkulo Restaurant. Seats are limited to 60 people only for a reasonable fee. So, reserve now at 810-8735.
Active gals!
Two out of five (or 40 percent) of Filipino women are prone to anemia, a condition caused by iron deficiency. This was learned at the recent Iberet Active briefing on the state of anemia among women.
Seen attending the briefing were the Team Everest together with the energetic multi-sport team members of the Team David’s Salon. Romina Urra Gonzalez and mom Carmita Francisco facilitated an animated dialogue with hematologist Dr. Rochelle Casino and medical manager of Abbott International Dr. Aileen Dualan. The two lady doctors explained the root causes of iron-deficiency anemia (IDA). Because of the lack of iron (thereby decreasing oxygen) in the bloodstream, those who have IDA may experience symptoms such as pale skin, dizziness, lightheadedness, weakness or fatigue and shortness of breath.
Noelle Wenceslao and Carina Dayondon of Team Everest shared that “pushing on was the only option” and that it took sheer determination, hard work, discipline and concentration and the strength of iron from Iberet Active that kept them going on to conquer Mt. Everest.
Team captain of Team David’s Salon Kaye Lopez enthused that Iberet Active has become part of their team’s routine –– from conditioning their bodies and giving them that much-needed boost through their arduous sports routines, to sustaining them even after training when they proceed with their everyday lives as mothers, entrepreneurs, students and professionals.
The event was held at The Ascott in Makati City where the lunch buffet consisted of lots of protein, which is supposed to prevent anemia.
