Revisiting the past

Season for new beginnings

Just recently, Ballet Philippines 2008-2009 launched its most moving set of dance productions called Season of New Beginnings. It was graciously hosted by Ambassador Peter and Jill Beckingham alongside Ballet Philippines president of the board Maan Hontiveros and board member Sophia Zobel-Elizalde who also chaired the much anticipated fundraiser New Beginnings Gala with honorary gala chairperson Elizabeth Roxas-Dobrish. This coming Dec. 11 to 14, the restaging of the timeless Alan Hineline story Coppélia will take place. Sophia Zobel-Elizalde has truly been an inspiration not only because of her captivating ability to dance but also her efforts in helping those gifted Filipinos who otherwise would not be given an opportunity to showcase their talents.

When art captures the heart

With the latest fashion trends and artistic fads, we rarely come across those pieces that faithfully illustrate the true beauty of our motherland. In wanting to keep such an art alive, Evelyn Lim Forbes, along with several others, produced the Fernando Amorsolo Seven-Museum Gala Benefit for the Amorsolo Retrospective: His Art, Our Heart. The seven-museum exhibition features the first National Artist’s collections as he truly captured the heart and soul of our native land. Guests arrived in stunning Filipiniana dresses and intricately designed silk barongs to truly emphasize the theme. The gala was created to support the Cribs Foundation, the participating museums and the Fernando Amorsolo Art Foundation, Inc. It was a truly inspiring evening. Congratulations!

A real golf classic

The second leg of the highly anticipated Mizuno Scramble Golf Classic, which began last month and will run until March of 2009 in a 15-leg competition, finished off with the expected flair. Led by BMG CEO Lovell Gopez and Master Sports Corp.-Mizuno GM Paolo Cagalingan, the Mizuno Scramble Golf Classic is a revival of a tournament tradition that began in early 1990s and was the original format of the two-man scramble now being adapted by various golf tournaments around the country. Leg 1, which was held at the Valley Golf and Country Club, was dominated by the tandem of Damasus Wong and Luis Laureta. While Il Hun Jeong and Arnold Duay took the cup in the second leg held at the Forest Hills Golf and Country Club.

Congratulations!
