The chairman of the Zuellig Group, Dr. Stephen Zuellig, was recently in town for two occasions: to receive an important award and to celebrate his 90th birthday.

President Arroyo conferred on Dr. Zuellig the Grand Cross of the Order of Lakandula, the highest decoration given by Malacanang to a civilian. Dr. Zuellig, born in the Philippines in May 1917, was cited for his sustained commitment and support of the Philippine cause locally and in Europe.

The Zuellig Group, which originated in the Philippines more than 100 years ago, is now a multinational and multi-billion corporation doing business in ASEAN countries, New Zealand, Australia, Korea, Japan and China.

Dr. Zuellig –– who has been the country’s honorary consul general to Monaco since the time of the late Foreign Affairs Secretary Carlos P. Romulo –– was given a fete by Ambassador and Mrs. Roberto Romulo on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

The dinner was tendered at the Romulo Room of the Prince Albert Rotisserie in Hotel InterContinental. The special gourmet dinner was prepared by the hotel’s executive chef Patrick Fournes and GM Christian Pirodon, as guest chef.

Congratulations, Dr. Zuellig!
