There are Filipinos whose hearts beat with unbridled dedication and love for the less fortunate. The members of the Foundation for Lay Education on Heart Diseases, Inc. (FLEHD) are such people, and their mission is to educate Filipinos on how to take care of their heart. The committed group of expert cardiologists and medical professionals, led by the indefatigable FLEHD founder and president Dr.
Adolfo Bellosillo, recently recounted their successes at the meeting of their board of trustees. The gathering was hosted by FLEHD staunch supporter and trustee, the multi-papal awardee and philanthropist
Meldy Cojuangco, who welcomed all the members of the board, executive committee and chapter officers at her lovely home.
To date, FLEHD has conducted 178 public fora, 17 barangay health workers workshops on preventive cardiology and seven senior citizen seminars on secondary preventions. A total of 10 FLEHD chapters have been formed all over the country and two more will be added this year. The groups new projects include health care professionals in government service preventive programs and care givers seminars. A faculty member of the FLEHD Laguna chapter, Dr.
Ricky del Fuerte, was also given a scholarship and travel grant to further his training in weight reduction at the University of Iowa. FLEHD has truly made a difference in the lives of Filipinos by reaching out and touching their hearts.
Congratulations!
