'Virus is the enemy, not us,' says Wuhan woman

Agence France-Presse

BEIJING, China— Lucy Huang, a documentary maker living in Beijing, is unable to see her family in Wuhan, the epicenter of an ongoing virus epidemic. She says people from the region are being stigmatized in the wake of the outbreak.

"I hope everyone can treat Wuhan people kindly because Wuhan is really fragile right now. I believe that all Wuhan people including me didn't want this thing to happen and we hope it can be alleviated quickly but now at this stage people's criticism of Wuhan people is quite unfair," Huang said.

"I think our enemy is the virus itself, not people from Hubei or Wuhan. Because everyone is a victim, and I think in this era we shouldn't speculate so viciously that many people are going around maliciously spreading the disease," she also said.
