WATCH: Koala and her joey rescued from Aussie wildfires
BRISBANE, Australia — Aisling and her joey Rupert were rescued at the weekend from bush fires raging in eastern Australia when police from the town of Jimboola in Queensland picked up the distressed animals.
Both koalas are now in a stable condition, but they are being monitored by vets at the RSPCA who say smoke inhalation can take up to three days to clear.
More than 130 fires are raging in the states of Queensland and New South Wales, fuelled by strong winds and a prolonged drought, in an unusually ferocious and early start to the wildfire season.
